Welcome to the 2025-26 School Year!
Hello Windsor Community!
As we settle into the new school year, I’d like to extend a warm welcome to all our students, families, staff, and community partners. Each year brings fresh opportunities for students to discover their passions, grow in confidence, and achieve their goals—and we are here to support them every step of the way.
I am incredibly proud of the dedication our educators and staff bring each day to create safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environments. Their commitment, along with the strong partnership we have with our families and the broader Windsor community, continues to be the foundation of our success. Furthermore, our schools have been crushing goals and making their mark! Below you will hear just a snippet of some of the great stuff happening at each site as we continue to focus on improving our educational outcomes and providing amazing educational opportunities for all of our students.
Mattie Washburn is excited for the completion of their new preschool (Margie Mejia Preschool at Mattie Washburn), thanks to the generosity of our neighbors, the Lytton Band of Pomo Indians. The preschool will honor tribal leader Margie Mejia, and provide an exceptional facility for our littlest learners. Brooks Elementary is excited to welcome Shjon Gilbertson who is a TOSA working on providing Student Services, doing everything from Social Emotional learning to academic push in and support. At Cali Calmecac, they are excited about growing community engagement, and furthering their work with professional learning communities.
Windsor Middle School will be launching an expanded learning center after school to help students be even more successful, while Windsor High School is excited to welcome girl’s flag football to their roster of champion sports teams. Finally, Big Picture Learning Windsor are taking advantage of the SMART train's arrival in Windsor, and free student rides, to take our students on monthly “leaving to learn” opportunities.
These are just some of the awesome things happening this year in Windsor Unified, and because of that, I want to strengthen how you stay connected to what your District is doing and open more opportunities for dialogue about your ideas and concerns. That’s why we will be introducing “Sippin’ With the Superintendent.” If you’ve attended “Coffee With The Principal” at your school site, or “Coffee With A Cop” here in town, then you get the general idea, but I’m not a coffee drinker, so we’ll have to pick an alternate beverage!
These gatherings will take place throughout the year, and both during the day and in the early evening to allow the widest possible variety of our community to be able to attend. These will be your opportunity to ask questions, learn more about our District and the things happening in it, and hear from us on things we think you should know. Our focus will be on listening to, and discussing, the things on your mind as they pertain to our school District.
The first one will be Monday, October 27, at 11 am at Cafe Noto. We’ll be announcing additional days, times, and locations soon, so please keep your eye out for that. In the meantime, please know I am always available at jdecker@wusd.org.
This year, we look forward to building on our collective strengths, deepening our connections, and celebrating the many ways our students grow and shine. I encourage everyone to stay engaged, support one another, and join us in making this school year a memorable one for every child in Windsor.
I look forward to seeing you and sharing all the awesome things we are up to!
